Hide Apps from Screen: A Simple Way to Declutter and Protect Your Privacy

Most phones have way more apps than anyone actually uses daily. Banking apps, shopping apps, social media, games—it adds up. Beyond just clutter, there are probably a few you'd rather not have visible when someone else picks up your device.

The simplest fix? Hide them. You can hide apps from screen without uninstalling anything.

Why Hide Apps from Screen?

Most people want apps hidden for one of a few reasons:

  • Privacy – Not everyone needs to see your dating apps or private messaging tools
  • Less distraction – Fewer visible icons means fewer temptations
  • Cleaner home screen – Some people just prefer a minimal look

Fortunately, most phones have built-in ways to do this.

On iPhone: Quick Options

Apple keeps it straightforward. Press and hold any app icon, tap "Remove App," then choose "Remove from Home Screen." The app disappears from sight but stays in your App Library—still there when you need it, just not visible.

You can also hide entire pages. Enter wiggle mode (long-press an empty area), tap the dots at the bottom, and uncheck any pages you don't want showing.

On Android: Varies by Manufacturer

Android's approach depends on your phone brand:

  • Samsung – Open the app drawer, tap the three-dot menu, select Settings, then "Hide apps on Home and Apps screens"
  • OnePlus – Settings > Privacy > Hide Apps
  • Pixel (Android 15+) – There's a "Private Space" feature that creates a separate, locked environment for apps

Some people also use third-party launchers like Nova Launcher, which include app-hiding options in their settings.

The "Calculator Vault" Approach

If you want something more discreet, there are apps that hide other apps. Some disguise themselves as calculators—open it, enter a PIN, and your hidden apps appear. To anyone else, it's just a calculator.

These apps work without rooting your phone and often include additional features like photo vaults and app locking with fingerprint or PIN protection.

A Word of Caution

Not every hiding app is trustworthy. Stick to well-known ones with good reviews. Check what permissions they ask for—a photo-hiding app doesn't need access to your contacts or microphone.

Also, hiding isn't the same as deleting. Hidden apps remain installed and accessible through search or your app drawer. If you need more serious protection, look for apps that include encryption or biometric locks.
